Complex Turning up to 8"

Sometimes, customers aren’t even aware of the unique capabilities that a swiss-type lathe can offer. In many cases, swiss lathes allow for higher quality and lower cost production than conventional screw machines. Swiss lathes can hold more precise tolerances using fewer operations for small complex parts.

One of the great benefits of using Swiss-style CNC lathes is the ability of our machines to make complex parts. Our machines have nine live tools, which create a large range of programming possibilities including: live cross and end drilling, milling and tapping. Our machine is equipped with two spindles (main and sub), which allow us to perform operations on two separate parts simultaneously.

The sub-spindle is a second spindle on the opposite side of the cutting tools from the main spindle, permitting a component to be machined on both ends. The first end of a work piece is machined while held by the main spindle, then the work piece is automatically transferred to the sub-spindle and the other end is machined while held by the sub-spindle. This capability is essential in reducing processing time in a part that would typically call for multiple secondary operations.

Long length to diameter
Swiss style lathes also have the ability to produce parts with a long length to diameter ratio. Short set-up times, shorter tool change times, and elimination of secondary operations allow us to respond faster when lead times are critical.
